Virgil Cross, Sr. Obituary

Virgil Franklin Cross, Sr., 85, of Moncks Corner husband of Henrietta Cross passed away peacefully Saturday August 14, 2021.

Virgil was born January 2, 1936 in St. Augustine, Florida a son of Robert Joseph Cross and Hazel Lewis Cross.

Married on March 18, 1955, Virgil was a devoted husband to Henrietta as they shared 66 years together. Lovingly referred to as “Papa” by his family, Virgil was passionate about his children and grandchildren, he loved them dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.

 He served as an engineer in the US Air Force, having flown all over the world and retiring after 27 ½ years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher for many years. Virgil was loved and appreciated for his unique personality and sense of humor, “Virgil was Virgil”, says his family and he will be sadly missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Henrietta, are a son- Virgil F. Cross, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Moncks Corner; three grandchildren- Christina Cross McElvogue and her husband, C.C., of Summerville; Jeremiah Cross of Las Vegas, Nevada and Tory Woodward of Houston, Texas; four great grandchildren- Hunter McElvogue, Faith McElvogue, Addie Woodward and Audrey Woodward; a brother- Jerry Cross and his wife, Marla, of Texas. Virgil is predeceased by a daughter- Desiree Lorraine Cross Woodward; four brothers and a sister.
