Obituary

Shirley Louise Mitchum Gesling, 67, of Summerville, wife of Joseph “Joe” Gesling, Sr. passed away Sunday September 5, 2021.

Shirley was born August 27, 1954 in Charleston County a daughter of the late Patrick Mitchum, Sr. and the late Helen Keller Mitchum.

A bookkeeper for a trucking company, Shirley enjoyed reading her bible, spending time with her grandchildren and watching Jimmy Swaggert. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter- Jennifer Simmons of Summerville and her children- Omari and Anaya;  a son- Matthew McCants and his wife, Ashley, of Summerville and their children- Skyla, Sophia and Layla;  step grandchildren- Katelyn Gesling, Dylan Gesling and Cole Wood; great grandchild- Madelyn Wood; two brothers- Pat Mitchum and his wife, Early, of Bonneau Beach; Mike Mitchum and his wife, Sylvia, of Bonneau Beach; a sister- Mary Ponds and her husband, Robert, of Tenn.; two nephews- David Mitchum and Ryan Cobb.

All services will be private.  

The family asks that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.
