Obituary

Robert "Bob" Mason Bond, Jr., 85, passed on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Bob was born in
Sumter, SC, on June 9, 1938. He was the son of the late Robert Mason and Mary Elizabeth
Bond. After living in Sumter for six years, he moved to Charleston, SC for six years, and later
moved again to Orangeburg, SC for six more years where he graduated from Orangeburg High
School in 1956. He was the class valedictorian and the school's National Honor Society
President. With assistance of a scholarship from the Elks Club of Orangeburg, Bob applied to
Clemson Agricultural College, now Clemson University. In 1960, he graduated with a B.S.
degree in Ceramic Engineering.
After graduation, he started in the brick manufacturing industry and remained there for most of
his 46 year career. His first position was at Carolina Ceramics, Inc. and there he established
himself as a reputable engineer in brick manufacturing and kiln design, and was later named
President. He continued to lead plant operations and production efforts until 1986, when he left
to start an engineering firm to design and build brick kilns. He later had a short career building
custom homes, and then returned to Carolina Ceramics in 1996, from which he retired on
December 31, 2006. He then moved to Moncks Corner, SC to live near family.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth "Mickie" Hughes Bond; daughter
Christina Bond Wilson and husband Jake of Matthews, NC; and son, Robert Mason Bond, III
and wife Stacey of Moncks Corner; and four grandchildren, Katelyn Bond O'Laughlin (Chris) of
Moncks Corner, SC, Robert Mason Bond, IV (Savanna) of Huger, SC, Amelia Clark Bond of
Moncks Corner, SC, and Austin Jacob Wilson of Mauldin, SC.
He enjoyed woodworking, car restoration, cheering on the Clemson Tigers, and fellowship with
friends and family. Many will miss him.
A private graveside service and burial will be at Biggin Cemetery on SC 402.
