Mary Alice (Russell) Barnette

Mary Alice Russell Barnette, 87, of Russellville, wife of Thomas William Barnette, passed away Monday November 2, 2020.

Mary Alice was born February 22, 1933 in Berkeley County, the daughter of the late John Malcolm Russell, Sr. and Myrtie Woodard Russell.

A devoted wife to her husband William for over 72 years, Mary Alice and William raised four sons together and made their lives in the Russellville Community. She loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Russellville Christian Church where she sang in the choir and served on many committees over the years.

Mary Alice was known to be a wonderful cook, having many signature dishes that were loved by her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, traveling locally and abroad, family gatherings and spoiling her grands and great grands. She loved rocking and bathing babies and was know by her family to be "the biggest baby hog around."  Mary Alice was a passionate person who made sure the people she loved and cared about knew how she felt. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four sons- Michael Barnette and his wife, Linda, of Russellville; Mark Barnette and his wife, Wendy, of Russellville; Perry Barnette and his wife, Pam, also of Russellville and Kevin Barnette and his wife, Donna, of Moncks Corner; seven grandchildren- Layne Barnette, Thomas Barnette, Stacey Dupree, Lisa Smith, Josh Barnette and Kevin Wadford; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a son- Tommy Barnette and two brothers- John Malcolm Russell, Jr. and Clarence Woodard Russell. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Adrienne Naves for her recent help caring for Mary Alice. 

Her funeral service will be held at Russellville Christian Church, Thursday afternoon November 5, 2020 at 1 o’clock, interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 am until the hour of service.
