Joseph Kress

August 5, 1944 — January 27, 2024

Pinopolis

Paul Joseph “Joe” Kress, 79, passed away on Saturday January 27th 2024 in his home in Pinopolis, SC.

Joe was born in Dunkirk, Indiana on August 5th, 1944 to Paul and Clara Kress, nee Weisman. Joe attended Dunkirk High School (go Speedcats!) and Purdue University and was a proud Boilermaker! A chemist by trade, he worked at Ball Corporation in Muncie, IN before moving to Pinopolis, SC. In SC, he worked at JW Aluminum as a salesman, which took him all around the globe. For a man from such a small town in Indiana, he would say he did a pretty good job seeing the world. He retired from JW Aluminum and enjoyed playing golf almost every day after. As he would say, “a bad day at the course beats a good day at the office.”

Joe was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, now Trinity Church - Pinopolis, for 36 years. He was also an avid golf player and was able to achieve 3 hole-in-ones at the Berkeley Country Club. Joe loved the Indy 500, his Purdue Boilermakers, and fishing on Lake Moultrie. As he was an only child, Joe was especially close with his cousins Jim Weiseman (Pam) and Bill Weiseman (Chris).

He will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, his sense of adventure, and his outgoing personality.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Kress of Panama City Beach FL; his daughter, Clara Kress of Pinopolis, SC; his daughter-in-law, Lori Riggin Kress of Indianapolis, IN; and his step-sisters: Diane Reed Beam, Judi Reed Malone, and Elaine Reed Wade. Joe was preceded in death by his son Tim Kress; his daughter-in-law, Tammi Kress; and his two grandchildren Angel and Isaac Kress.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday February 3rd, 2024 at 11am at Trinity Church - Pinopolis 1915 Pinopolis Rd, Pinopolis, SC 29469. The family will receive friends at a reception afterward.
