James Lee Carroll, Sr.

James Lee Carroll Sr., 47, passed away peacefully at Beckley ARH Hospital on August 29, 2022, after a courageous battle with his failing health.

James was born in Charleston, South Carolina on September 10, 1974, the son of Paul Hartwell Carroll and Betty Jean Bullard.  He was a loving husband, father, Pawpaw, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be fondly remembered by all that knew him.

James is survived by his wife, Vonda Sparks Carroll; a daughter- Savannah Lynn Carroll; two sons- James Lee Carroll, Jr. and  Matthew Justin Carroll; stepdaughter-  Amber Applegate and her husband, Mark; seven grandchildren- Bryson Lee, Abigail, Bryson, Faithlyn, Johnathon, Victoria, and Ireland; a brother- John Scott Carroll; a sister- Phyllis Diane Spain; two nieces- Chelsey Willing and her husband, Roy, and Heather Padgett and her husband, Rick; a nephew- Brandon Spain; and several great-nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Carroll.

His funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Saturday afternoon, September 3, 2022, at 12 o'clock. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel from 11 o’clock until the hour of service.
