Henry Porcher Obituary

Henry Ravenel Porcher, 81, of Columbia, formerly of Pinopolis, widower of Frances Martin Porcher, passed away Thursday June 17, 2021.

Henry was born January 16, 1940 in Moncks Corner. His descendants fled to Charleston from France, where they established plantations all along the south bluff of the Santee River. His parents, Richard Dwight Porcher and Miriam Ellison Porcher, settled in Pinopolis where they raised Henry, Richard and Martha and watched the waters of Lake Moultrie cover their homeland.

Having received his education at Carlisle Military Academy, Henry was a private truck driver in the Columbia area for 40 years before retiring. Although Henry and Frances settled in Columbia, they maintained ownership of a lot on Butter Road in Bonneau where they built a small cottage and spent almost every weekend. 

Surviving are- a brother- Richard D. "Richie" Porcher, Jr. of Charleston; niece- Dorothy Porcher Holland and her husband, Jonathan, of Charleston; nephews- William A. Dotterer and his wife, Julia; R. Dwight Porcher, III and his wife, Rene, all of Charleston; Timmy Martin and his wife, Lori; Mike Martin and his wife, Jennifer; and Tom Martin all of Mt. Holly, NC. In addition to his parents and wife, Henry is predeceased by a sister- Martha Porcher Dotterer. 

His graveside service will be held in the St. Stephen Episcopal Church Cemetery, 196 Brick Church Circle, St. Stephen, SC 29479, Saturday morning July 3, 2021 at 11 o’clock.

The family asks that memorials be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 1707 N. Randall Rd., Suite 200, Elgin, IL. 60123.
