Douglas Mitchum Obituary

Douglas Ferrell Mitchum, 89, of Moncks Corner, first married to the late Ether Dean Hanna Mitchum, widower of Catherine Mary Johnson Mitchum, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on November 4, 2022.

Douglas was born on April 28, 1933, in Bethera, SC, the son of Douglas Clifford Mitchum and Agnes Mitchum. He was a dedicated husband of 17 years; a loving father and a member and Sunday School Teacher at Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. Douglas served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later served his community as a Law Enforcement Officer for Berkeley County. Mr. Mitchum was a master carpenter and taught building construction at the Bonneau Vocational Center for 23 years.  He will be forever missed by his family and friends.

Douglas is survived by his son- Dale Mitchum and his wife, Samantha of Moncks Corner; a daughter- Pam Gaskins and her husband, Perry of Bethera; a step-son- Marvin Wren and his wife, Carla of Moncks Corner; three grandchildren- Lindsey Nofsker; Corey Gaskins; Travis Mitchum and his wife, Kaylyn; a step-grandson- Jonathan Wren and his wife, Chelsie; a step-granddaughter- Jennifer Egnor and her husband, Elijah; two great-grandchildren- Olivia Mitchum and Charlotte Nofsker; two step-great-grandchildren- Brantley Wren and Sawyer Wren; two sisters- Jacquelyn Gamble of Cross; Beverly Jackson and her husband, Don of Monroe, GA. In addition to his late wife, Catherine Mary Johnson Mitchum, Douglas was predeceased by his first wife, Ether Dean Hanna Mitchum, and a brother- Oswald Mitchum.

His funeral service will be held at Moncks Corner United Methodist Church, Tuesday morning, November 8, 2022, at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Monday evening, November 7, 2022, from 5 – 7 o’clock.
