Dorothy Ellen Sandusky DeHay, a widow of Rutledge DeHay, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, in a local hospital.
Dorothy was born February 27, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of James Harold Sandusky and Florence Biglin Sandusky.
A retired social worker with Berkeley Seniors and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Dot loved serving the people of her community in many different capacities including volunteering her time as the first female Jury Foreman at the Berkeley County Courthouse. Dot loved spending time with her family, and could be found spending countless hours reading and crocheting. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Dot is survived by her two sons- John Wayne DeHay and his wife, Shirley of Bonneau, SC, and James Rutledge DeHay of Pinopolis, SC; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband- Rutledge DeHay; and two sons- Richard H. DeHay and Robert “Buddy” DeHay.
Her funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 o’clock until the hour of service.
