Dennis Charles Powell

Dennis Charles Powell, known affectionately as Dennis to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023, at the age of 85. A native of Iowa, born on September 7, 1938, to Rolland Powell and Oy Terwilliger, Dennis's early life was steeped in the values and traditions of the American heartland.
His service in the United States Navy brought him to Charleston, South Carolina, a place he would eventually call home long after his retirement. Dennis's unwavering sense of duty and camaraderie led him to become an active member of VFW Post 9509, where he formed lifelong friendships and extended his commitment to his fellow servicemen and women.
Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife, Darlene Russell Powell of Ridgeville, and their blended family, including children Penny Freeman and her husband Robert, Chris Powell, Jenny Stevenson, Denise Powell, Shawn Russell Dupree with his wife Rhae, and James F. Dupree alongside his wife Tena. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory with love. He is also survived by his caring sister, Paula Mae Rychnovsky, and his brother, Greg Powell and his wife Hazel.

Dennis's memorial service will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024,at 2 o'clock in Russell Funeral Chapel, with a receiving of friends for one hour prior, beginning at 1 o'clock. Memorials can be made to Spring Hill United Methodist Church c/o Debby Sweatman, 1167 Grapevine Rd., Ridgeville, S.C 29472.
