Catherine Mary Johnson Mitchum, 93, of Moncks Corner, wife of Douglas F. Mitchum passed away in her home surrounded by family on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
Catherine was born on April 6, 1929, in Berkeley County, South Carolina the daughter of Lena Egenia Carr Johnson and Raleigh Johnson. She was a member of Moncks Corner United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the Ladies Circle. In her earlier years, Catherine was an owner-operator of The Berkeley Restaurant where she worked for 30-plus years. She was also employed at the Cigar Factory, CR Bard, and later, being the people person she was, Catherine became a greeter for Walmart. In her spare time, she loved to travel, she enjoyed countless bus tours and cruises with her family and friends. A warm and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Mitchum will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons- Marvin Wren and his wife, Carla of Moncks Corner; Dale Mitchum and his wife, Samantha of Moncks Corner; one step-son- George Wren, Jr. and his wife, Glenda of Holly Hill; a daughter- Pam Gaskins and her husband, Perry of Bethera; five grandchildren- Jennifer Egnor and her husband, Elijah; Jonathan Wren and his wife, Chelsie; Lindsey Nofsker; Corey Gaskins; Travis Mitchum and his wife, Kaylyn; four great-grandchildren- Brantley Wren, Sawyer Wren, Olivia Mitchum, and Charlotte Nofsker; one sister- Martha Murray of Moncks Corner. She was predeceased by her first husband, George G. Wren.
Her funeral service will be held at Moncks Corner United Methodist Church, on Wednesday afternoon, November 2, 2022, at 2 o’clock. Committal will follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 5-7 o’clock.
