Buddy Jackson Obituary

Buddy Leonard Jackson, 86, of Moncks Corner, passed away November 30, 2021 at his home with family by his side.

Buddy was born in 1935 in Griffin, Georgia to the late Aubrey Leonard Jackson and Jewel Cook Jackson and raised Baptist.  After graduating high school he joined the Navy where he served as an Electronics Technician during the Korean War.  After leaving the Navy he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech (1960) and his Masters of Business Administration from Georgia State University (1972).  During his career Buddy worked for General Electric, Lockheed, and Southern Railway before joining the Federal Government in 1963 where he worked with the Navy, Air Force, and Department of Energy until his retirement in 1994. At that time he was the Regional Director of the Department of Energy for the Southeast United States, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. During his career he was named Boss of the Year in Panama City, FL in 1976, and he was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to the Atlanta Olympic Committee to help plan the 1996 Olympic Games.  Buddy previously served as a Mason and a Shriner, continuously serving his community. One of Buddy's favorite forms of community service was coaching little league through pony league baseball for over 8 years in Aiken, oftentimes being selected to coach the All-Star team. Many knew Buddy as "Coach".

After retirement Buddy stayed active for several years by doing energy related consulting for the Government of Puerto Rico as well as designing web pages to help companies sell their products online.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, and watching Georgia Tech football and Atlanta Braves baseball. In his later years, Buddy enjoyed daily rides in the neighborhood and sitting on the front porch talking to neighbors and passers by. He loved Baby Ruth candy bars, Dr. Pepper, and going out to eat.  We will always remember his intellect, quick wit, great sense of humor, and his always seeing the good in everyone and everything.

He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Vivian Nichols Jackson, three children- Beverly Jackson Cabaniss (John), Hilton Head,  Bridget Jackson Bolin (Andy), Aiken, Michael Leonard Jackson (Kimberly), Savannah, and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren who lovingly called him Pop Pop.  His grandchildren are Lee Russell Williams (Aubrey), Kayli Emma Jackson, Quinton Gamache, John Cabaniss IV (Rachel), and Brennen Banard. His great grandchildren are Finleigh Grace Williams, Caden Russell Williams, and Bowen Joseph Williams.  Buddy also leaves behind his beloved pets, Landon and Chloe.
