Susan Umphlett Landes, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 5, 2025, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Born on March 25, 1957, in Berkeley County, Susan's life was marked by her kindness and her nurturing spirit.
A grandmotherly figure to many extended family members, Susan opened her home and heart to those around her. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether it was fishing, boating, or observing birds and animals in her yard. Her love for tending to her plants was matched only by her enjoyment of playing Solitaire.
Susan was proud of her accomplishments, particularly the years she and her late husband, Charles “Chuck” Landes, spent coaching a youth bowling league, creating lasting memories in the lives of many young bowlers.
She is survived by her daughter, Alena Gale, and her grandson, Ellis Gale. Susan also leaves behind her sisters, Carolyn Ware and Michal Lance, as well as sisters-in-law Carolyn Umphlett and Pam Bunnell, and her husband Todd. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.
Susan is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; her parents, Clyde David Umphlett and Ada Virginia Spell Umphlett; her brother, David Umphlett; her sister, Anne Keys; and her brothers-in-law, Jim Ware and Bill Keys.
Her funeral services will take place on November 10, 2025, at Russell Funeral Chapel in Moncks Corner, with visitation starting at 1 PM and the service commencing at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Biggin Cemetery.
