On July 27, 2025, my beloved son, Seth Isaac Leonard, died by suicide at just 29 years old after a long, heartbreaking battle with schizophrenia. Though his mind suffered deeply, Seth’s soul remained gentle, kind, and loving until the very end.
He experienced more loss than any one person should have to bear — his job, his relationship, and the ability to be fully present in the lives of his two beautiful children: his daughter Marianna (age 4) and his son Sebastian (age 2).
Seth longed to be reunited with his family and to become the kind of father he never had. He wanted to be present, responsible, and loving. But when he lost his job and his sense of purpose, he felt he had nothing left. The treatments available to him failed him — just as they fail so many others suffering from serious mental illness.
Throughout his struggles, Seth was never alone. Ana Arbelo, the mother of his children, remained a constant source of love and support. Although she made the difficult decision to temporarily leave their shared home to stay with her mother while Seth focused on medical treatment and stability, she never stopped showing him love and devotion. Ana called him every single day so that he and the children could talk — a ritual that meant everything to them all. She is devastated by his loss. Seth was the love of her life.
When earthly hope fell away, Seth turned to God — seeking peace, purpose, and unconditional love. We believe that when Seth ended his life, it was not only to silence the relentless voices in his head, but also to reunite with his Heavenly Father — where he believed he could finally find rest.
Seth will be laid to rest on July 31st at Sacred Grove Cemetery, surrounded by those who love him most.
