Ronald Smoak

Ronald Allen Smoak, 74, of Moncks Corner, husband of Emily Hundley Smoak, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016.

Ronald was born February 4, 1942, in Dillon County, a son of Jerome Smoak and Mary Rourk Smoak Ardavanis.

Ronald served with the US Navy in Vietnam and later devoted many hours as a volunteer in the Moncks Corner community.

He was a very motivated individual, having been a graduate of the first class of physician’s assistants from MUSC. With this degree he worked as a PA with the Berkeley County Health Department, eventually retiring as a PA from Gates Rubber Company.

He was honored to have served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Berkeley Electric Cooperative.


Surviving in addition to his wife are a son-Douglas Smoak and his wife, Lori, of Charleston; a daughter- Cynthia G. Horton and her husband, Bill, of Moncks Corner; a brother- Jerome “Bootie” Smoak and his wife, Kathy, of Pawley’s Island; two sisters- Sharon Shinkle of Orlando, Fla; Barbara Jean Haltom and her husband, Jim, of Chesapeake, Va.; one granddaughter- Tes Smoak; two sisters-in-law- Janie Johnson and Marie Johnson. He was predeceased by brothers- Bert Johnson; Reynolds Johnson and a sister- Dorothy Johnson.

His funeral service will be held at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Thursday afternoon, April 7, 2016, at 4 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Johns Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Russell Funeral Chapel from 3 o’clock until the hour of service.
