Reverend Michael Eugene Tolbert

Michael Eugene Tolbert, passed away on September 9, 2026, in Shulerville, South Carolina, at the age of 81.

He was born on April 11, 1945, in Concord, North Carolina, and lived a life marked by faith, service, and devotion to others. Michael was a faith-filled, selfless, and kind man whose presence was felt deeply by all who knew him. He carried himself with quiet strength and a steady commitment to the Lord, and he spent much of his life sharing that faith with anyone who would listen.

Michael was a retired Pentecostal Holiness Church pastor, and he last preached at Bethany PH in Shulerville. Even after retirement, he remained active in the South Carolina Conference of the IPHC and continued to encourage others through his testimony, his Bible study, and his unwavering willingness to preach the Word at every opportunity. His ministry was not limited to the pulpit, as he lived his beliefs daily through his actions, his kindness, and his example.

Before and alongside his years in ministry, Michael worked faithfully as a truck driver for Safety-Kleen for more than 20 years. He was also a proud United States Navy veteran, and his life reflected the discipline, dedication, and integrity that came from his service. Whether on the road, in the church, or among family and friends, he gave his best and remained steadfast in all he did.

Michael is survived by his daughters, Felisha Davidson and Erica Nole and her husband Richard; his son, Aaron M. Tolbert and his wife Ciji; his brothers, Paul Talbert and James Talbert; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Kama, Amber, Michael, Renayjah, Michael, Ian, and James; and two great-grandchildren, Marina and Kamiyah. He also leaves behind many loved ones and friends who will cherish his memory and the example he set throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock Jones Tolbert and Marie Ball Tolbert; his wife, Ellen Mae Roper Tolbert; his grandson, Edward Skipper; and several brothers and sisters. Though his family and friends grieve his passing, they take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and in the presence of the Lord he served so faithfully.

Michael will be remembered for his love of Bible study, his passion for preaching, and the way he never hesitated to share his faith with others. His life was a testimony of devotion, humility, and perseverance, and his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
