Mary Lou Radcliffe Flanagan, known lovingly as Mary Lou, passed away on April 21, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Bonneau, South Carolina, just two days before her 94th birthday. She was born on April 23, 1932, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and lived a long life marked by faith, devotion, and love for her family and community.
Mary Lou was a Christian and a lifetime member of Russellville Christian Church, where her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life. She loved the Lord deeply and found great joy in going to church and living out her beliefs each day. Her life reflected the values of kindness, humility, and service, and she was known by those who loved her as a loving, faith-filled, and selfless woman.
She had a special appreciation for the simple beauty of life. Mary Lou enjoyed the ocean and cherished time spent at the beach. She also loved gardening and took delight in the quiet pleasures of tending to the world around her. In addition to her own children, she helped raise many children over the years, offering care, comfort, and steady support to more than just her immediate family. Her nurturing spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughters, Darlene Lape and her husband Jimmy, and Patricia Dick and her husband Joseph; her sons, Todd Googe and his wife Rebecca, Scott Googe, and Kelly Barnette; and her brother, Johnny Radcliffe and his wife Elease. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Allison Bilton and her husband Styles, Josh Crosby and his wife Alyssa, Bailey Hill and her husband Bradley, Hunter Barnette and his wife Kayla, McQuin Googe and his wife Lacey, Brent Googe, Lauren Googe and honorary granddaughter, Brooks Middleton, along with 14 great-grandchildren who brought her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Doyle Radcliffe and Laura Corine Joyner Radcliffe; her husbands, Aiken Kelly Barnette, William Googe, and James Flanagan; her brothers, Thomas and Bernard Radcliffe; her sister, Peggy Radcliffe; her son, Greg Googe; her daughter, Patricia Lynn Googe; and her granddaughter, Audrea Barnhill. Though her family grieves her passing, they take comfort in the many memories of her warmth, strength, and unwavering love.
Mary Lou’s life was a beautiful example of devotion to God, commitment to family, and care for others. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her steadfast faith, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.
