Lou Ellen Gosnell, born on December 22, 1936, in Coushatta, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026. Known for her warmth, creativity, and strong family values, Lou Ellen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who touched the lives of many.
A dedicated member of The Order of the Eastern Star and the Berkeley Artist Guild, Lou Ellen channeled her artistic talents into vibrant paintings that showcased her unique perspective on the world. One of her notable works was featured on the cover of the Holly Hill phone book, an accomplishment she cherished. Additionally, she received commendation for her poignant painting of the last street car in New Orleans. Lou Ellen earned a degree in interior design, which further fueled her passion for creativity and aesthetics.
She is survived by her son, Carlton Fred Gosnell and his wife Bing of Santee; her daughter, Cynthia G. Jackson and her husband Sidney G. of St. George; five grandchildren: Sara Michnovicz, William Worrell Jr. and his wife Lindsey, Colleen B. Gosnell, Eric William Gosnell, and Stevan James Gosnell; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Lou Ellen is also survived by her brother, Davis Adkins and his wife Karen, and her sister, Edith Lindsay.
Lou Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W. Fred Gosnell; her father, Alan Adkins; her mother, Simmie Vance Adkins; her brother, George Adkins; and two grandchildren.
A visitation and funeral service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Berkeley Memorial Gardens immediately following.
