Katharine Anne Dress, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House. Born on February 22, 1939, in Aurora, Illinois, Kathy lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and her community.
Kathy's commitment to education and personal growth began early in life, as she attended the University of Iowa—a formative chapter that helped shape her lifelong appreciation for learning and service. Her professional journey led her to the Regional Medical Center, where she worked in Medical Records. Kathy’s diligence, attention to detail, and warm approach to colleagues and patients alike touched many who crossed her path in the halls of the medical center.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Kathy was involved in her community. She took joy in being part of the Gardening Club, where her love of nurturing plants and friendships bloomed. Her participation in various civic clubs in Orangeburg was a testament to her caring spirit and dedication to building a better community.
She is survived by her son, Ned Dress, and his wife, Terri Lynn; her daughter, Catherine Crumley. Kathy also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Moore, and her husband, Eric; Robert Crumley; Joseph Dress, and his wife, Peyton; and Matthew Dress, and his wife, Caroline. She was proud to welcome a great-grandchild, Dakota Jane Dress, into the family—her presence a reminder of the continuity of Kathy’s love and influence for generations to come.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dress, her sister, Carrie Travis, and her parents, James Richard Murphy and Catherince Burkel Murphy, and son-in-law, Michael Crumley.
