Brother Vincent Rohaley completed his journey with us early morning, April 10, 2025. We commend him to the loving mercy of God and thank God for his life with us for these past 33 years. Brother Vincent was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He was educated in Catholic schools and studied for the diocesan priesthood, leaving studies before ordination, having discerned this was not his call. He worked with Catholic Charities, assisting the poor, doing counseling, and finding safe accommodations for teens from troubled families. For a time he was employed managing an apartment complex and brought his handyman skills with him to Mepkin. His Scottish connection brought him to Nunraw, and then the belief that his call was to contemplative monastic life found him visiting Gethsemane in Kentucky, where he was invited to consider Mepkin. A lover of reading and learning, his hunger for God met the fount of monastic tradition with his brothers at Mepkin, and he used his practical knowledge to help in many ways, serving the community with enthusiasm and a wonderful generosity of spirit. With aging, his health began to decline, and these past months brought him to need regular care from his brothers, who listened attentively to his anecdotes and marvelous stories. Kindly remember Brother Vincent in your prayers.
