Jean DeHay Guerry, of Jamestown, South Carolina, wife of the late Cecil B. Guerry, passed away February 16, 2022, at the age of 92.
Jean was born to parents David McCants DeHay and Marguerite Todd DeHay on December 26, 1929, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
In addition to being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jean used her many talents and skills in an array of duties outside the home including playing the piano every Sunday for 50 years at St. James United Methodist Church and developing a nationally recognized Butterfly Garden at the Jamestown Park.
She was also a valued member of the South Carolina Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution, a Charter Member of the Berkeley County Historical Society, a Jamestown Town Council Member for many years, where she was currently serving, and played an important role in organizing the Hell Hole Swamp Festival. Mrs. Guerry will be fondly remembered by her family, friends, and her community.
Surviving are a daughter- Carol Guerry and her husband, Marshall Allen of Moncks Corner; a son- Mark Guerry and his wife, Mary Robin of Moncks Corner; a daughter-in-law- Sally Guerry; three sisters- Patricia D. Fluery, Beverly D. Adams, and Hazel D. Hughes; six grandchildren- Caroline Nettles, Paul Nettles, Ryan Guerry, James Guerry, Mia G. Koehler, and Megan Guerry, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Cecil B. Guerry; two sons- C. Spencer Guerry and Douglas C. Guerry; one sister- Estelle D. Haselton, and one brother- David Todd DeHay.
Her graveside service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery, Friday afternoon, February 25, 2022, at 1 o’clock, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL.
