James William Yates, Sr., 87, of Moncks Corner, husband of Katie "Betty" Jackson Yates, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013, at home.
Mr. Yates was born March 4, 1926, in Red Fork, Arkansas, the son of the late Willie Ephriam Yates and Lyda Mae Rowe Yates.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Mr. Yates enjoyed working outside, cooking bar-b-cue for family gatherings, and fishing with his grandchildren. He was the consummate raconteur.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are son - Dr. James W. Yates Jr. and his wife, Sheila, of Conway; daughter - Gerrell Dangefield and her husband, Freddie, of Moncks Corner; and son - Franklin Yates and his wife, Susan, of Moncks Corner; grandchildren - Jessica Williams and her husband, Matt; Jamie Lindsay; David W. Dangerfield; Philip Dangerfield; and Katelyn Yates; step-grandson - Mark Dangerfield; great-grandchild - Presley Grace Williams; and four brothers, two sisters, and a brother-in-law. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
The funeral service honoring Mr. Yates will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Wednesday afternoon, September 18, 2013, at 3 o'clock. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary immediately following the committal service.
