Harry Sewall DuPree, 73, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at his home.
Harry was born on February 26th, 1951, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, to Louis DuPree and Aileen Cannon. He was a graduate of Berkeley High School and briefly served in the Army. He was an employee of Berkeley Electric Cooperative for 44 years before retiring in 2014. Harry was passionate about farming. He acquired, built, and maintained a family farm. He was dedicated to helping local farmers by serving as President of the Berkeley County Farm Bureau for many years and by serving on various agricultural committees and boards including the SC Farm Bureau Federation State Board and the Farm Service Agency COC of Berkeley County. Among many other awards, he was selected as Berkeley County's Outstanding Cooperator in 1984 and received the S.C. Farm Bureau Coastal District Volunteer of the year award in October of 2024. Harry also volunteered with the SC Department of Natural Resources as a deputy law enforcement officer and as a committee member of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Association.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 45 years, Linda DuPree; daughters, Hope DuPree (Jarrod Rosen), HaLee DuPree (Jonathan Cain), and Hannah DuPree; son, Wyndham DuPree (Lauren); grandchildren, Alice Rosen, Lily Rosen, Cooper DuPree, and Skylar DuPree; sister, Theresa Cannon; brother, Louis “Bubba” DuPree (Beth), brothers-in-law, Greg Wyndham (Lauren) and Roy Edwards; and sister-in-law, Shelby Wyndham.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, Louis DuPree; brothers, Allen DuPree and James DuPree; brother-in-law, Frampton E. Wyndham Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Gail Edwards and Martha C. DuPree.
The family will receive visitors at Russell Funeral Chapel in Moncks Corner from 1pm to 2pm on Saturday, December 7th, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Berkeley County Farm Bureau office in Moncks Corner, SC or Mepkin Abbey.
The family extends their gratitude to all of Harry’s friends whose support and encouragement sustained him during his courageous 10-year battle with cancer.
They would also like to thank the friends and members of the B.C.F. Board and FSA committee, whose kindness and generosity made Harry’s final harvest possible.
A special thank you to Dr. Beldner and his team at Lowcountry Oncology Associates, whose care and treatment gave Harry 10 extra years with his family, friends, and farm.
Harry also expressed his deep appreciation to Mepkin Abbey for the honor and privilege of farming their fields. He was humbled by their trust in him.
Finally, the family is deeply grateful to the staff and nurses of Crescent Hospice. Their compassion and support provided Harry and his family with peace and comfort in his final days.
