George Taylor Newell, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on October 15, 2025, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, at the age of 75. He was born on October 27, 1949, in Washington, DC.
A proud graduate of Clemson University, George earned his civil engineering degree, graduating magna cum laude. His choice to attend Clemson brought immense pride not only to him but also to his family and friends. George’s deep-rooted loyalty to Clemson continued throughout his life, making him a lifelong fan of the university’s athletic teams.
George was known for his love of the outdoors. He found joy in hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories with loved ones. A passionate cook, he often delighted his family with meals that brought everyone together, sharing not just food but also warmth and comfort within their home.
George is survived by his two sons, Dana Ratliff and his wife Angie, and Leon Ratliff. He adored his grandsons, Tristan Ratliff and Lukas Ratliff, and took great pride in his great-grandson, Cameron Ratliff. Each member of his family held a special place in his heart, and it was their smiles and laughter that truly enriched his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Noel N. Newell, his mother, Jean Jernigan Newell, and his beloved cousin, Joree Newell Boroughs, who was like a sister to him.
