Macedonia

Douglas L. Rhodes, affectionately known as “Dusty,” passed away surrounded by his family, on August 29, 2026, at his home in Macedonia. He was born on June 23, 1952, in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Dusty will be remembered as a man of strong hands, generous spirit, and deep devotion to the people he loved. A carpenter by trade, he used his skill not only as a profession, but as a lasting gift to those around him, having worked on every family member’s home. He attended the University of Georgia on a baseball scholarship, and throughout his life remained a devoted Georgia Bulldog fan. He was also a member of Victory Baptist Church.

He found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. Dusty loved fishing, scuba diving, animals, and, above all, spending time with his family. These interests reflected a life rooted in loyalty, enjoyment of the outdoors, and appreciation for the relationships that meant the most to him.

Most especially, Dusty leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Ann Lofton Rhodes. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Lofton; his brother-in-law Wayne Lofton and Wayne’s wife, Ann; his sister-in-law Debra Lyon and her husband, Jonathan; his nephew Wade Lyon and Stephanie; his nephew Wayne Lofton and Crystal; his niece Jennifer Cunningham and Zach; and his niece Kimberly Williams and David. He was preceded in death by his father, H.B. Rhodes, and his mother, Mary Davis Rhodes.
