Donald Earl Smith

February 3, 1953 — November 15, 2023

St. Stephen

Donald Earl Smith, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and respected US Army veteran, born on February 3, 1953, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023. Donald was born in Laurens, South Carolina, to the late Lee Earl Smith and Eunice Faye Dawson.
In his professional life, Donald was a dedicated truck driver, having impressively logged over three million miles. He was a committed serviceman, having proudly served his nation as a veteran of the US Army. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Armed Forces never left him, as friends and family will attest.
Donald was a man of many interests. He found great joy in the peace of nature, frequently embarking on hunting and fishing trips. He also had a deep love for the printed word, a devoted reader who could often be found lost in a book. Yet, above all these pursuits, his real passion was his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Pruett Smith, step-father, Robert Fletcher, his son Willard "Art" Combs and his wife Angel Faye, his grandsons Michael, Will, and James Wyatt Fletcher, his sisters Betty Norris and her husband Randy, Brenda Kventon and her husband Charles, and his brothers Troy Smith and his wife Cindy, and Scotty Smith and his wife Suzanne.
Donald Earl Smith was a godly, honest, and loyal man. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, and his legacy of integrity and fairness shall live on in the generations to come. May his soul find eternal peace.
