Charlotte Anne Hess, born May 10, 1928, in Lamberton, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at the Life Care Center of Charleston, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Charles Sheldon Cooper and Lillian Virginia Koenig Cooper.
Charlotte's early years were shaped by the farm life, where she shared her days with her beloved dog, horse, cow, and chickens, companions that brought comfort and friendship during her childhood. This rural upbringing instilled in her a strong work ethic and a profound love for the outdoors that would remain with her throughout her life.
At the age of 19, Charlotte embarked on a career in nursing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a vocation through which she demonstrated compassion and care for others. Her nursing career was a foundation of service and empathy, reflecting her generous spirit.
Later, following the relocation of her husband, Alvin Conrad Hess, to Charlotte, North Carolina, they embraced a new chapter by opening an antique shop. This endeavor was a testament to Charlotte's passion for history and collecting, a pursuit she continued to foster throughout her life.
In 1983, Charlotte and Alvin moved to Pinopolis, South Carolina, where her love for antiques flourished alongside her affection for travel. They enjoyed adventures in their motorhome, often accompanied by Charlotte's mother and their two dogs, Nikki and Spuds. Together, they explored 48 states, creating treasured experiences.
Charlotte found great joy in the peaceful moments spent on her deck, observing the vibrant array of birds, squirrels, deer, and other wildlife she faithfully nourished with corn and sunflower seeds. These daily rituals reflected her deep connection to nature and her gentle spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband, Alvin Conrad Hess. Their memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A sincere thank you to the staff, nurses and aides at the Life Care Center of Charleston, along with a thank you to the hospice team and caregivers at Interim Health Care for all their support and comfort.
