Charles E. Glover, Jr., 83, a resident of Pinopolis for 51 years, retired Soil Conservationist and district conservationist for Berkeley County passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, with family beside him. Born on February 12, 1940, in Fairfield County, SC, Charles was the son of the late Charles E. Glover, Sr. and Edna Sheely Glover.
He was a graduate of Jenkinsville High School and later attended the NC State Agricultural Institute, where he cultivated his lifelong passion for agriculture and conservation. Charles served his country in the Army during the Vietnam era with the 11th Air Assault Division.
Charles was a past President and board member of the SC Chapter of the Soil Conservation Society of America in SC, and a District Commissioner of the Berkeley County Soil and Water Conservation District. His dedication to his work was recognized with the prestigious H.H. Harvey Award. Charles was also a charter member and past SC Aquatic Plant Management Society board member, reflecting his commitment to preserving South Carolina's natural beauty.
Charles was a life member of IPTAY and a scoutmaster. He was a Christian and dedicated member of Moncks Corner United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Scott Guild Sunday school class and the past Master of the Masonic Lodge 151 in Pomaria and member of 60 years.
He is survived by his two sons- Charles “Ed” Glover, III and his wife, Heather, and James “Lee” Glover, and his wife, Lori of Moncks Corner; sister, Rebecca Swanson; and five grandchildren, Hope Glover, Matthew Glover, Jacob Glover, Braden Glover, and Brock Glover. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Judy Glover; his father and mother, Charles E Glover, Sr and Edna Sheely Glover; sister, Laura Jane Lambert; and grandchildren, Maggie and Faith Glover.
His funeral service will be held at Moncks Corner United Methodist Church, Friday evening, July 14, 2023, at 5 o’clock, directed by Russell Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends at the church from 3 o’clock until the hour of service. Interment will take place in Greenbrier United Methodist Church Cemetery on Saturday morning, July 15, 2023, at 11 o’clock.
