Blakeley Durant Mercer, 76, of Moncks Corner, husband of Clarice McCutchen Mercer passed away Saturday April 24, 2021.
Blakeley was born December 2, 1944 in Kingstree, South Carolina a son of Thomas Durant Mercer and Jeanette Blakeley Mercer.
A devoted husband of 57 years, Blakeley was a loving father and grandfather. He had worked as a mechanic and service writer for over 30 years, having been employed by Charleston Lincoln Mercury as well as E.M. Jones Chevrolet in Summerville. Blakeley was a drag racing enthusiast and even built and drove his own drag racing cars. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter- Angelia Mercer Baker and her husband, Bob, of Hickory, NC; a son- Jeffrey Blakeley Mercer and his wife, Crystal, of Moncks Corner; grandchildren- Chelsea Fulton and her husband, Tayler; Blake Baker and his wife, Erica; Macyn Page Baker; Brandon Mercer and his wife, Marissa, of Moncks Corner; Travis Mercer and his wife, Desirae of Goose Creek; Blakeley would have been welcoming his first great grandchild next week- Lachlan Ryott Fulton; sister- Wanda M. Ray and her husband, Carl, of Andrews; two aunts- Joyce McCrea of Salters and Betty Jo Benton of Georgetown. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two sisters- Judith Mercer Cooper and Tommie Ann Mercer Tisdale.
His funeral service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel, Tuesday April 27, 2021 at 2 o’clock. Interment will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 1 o’clock until the hour of service.
