Betty Jean Maxey, affectionately known as "Jean," passed away peacefully at her home in Cross, South Carolina, on April 25, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on June 12, 1935, in Honea Path, South Carolina, she brought joy and love to the lives of those around her throughout her remarkable life.

Jean dedicated a significant part of her career as an inspector at Berkeley Manufacturing before choosing to embrace the roles of caregiver for her beloved husband and daughter.

A member of the Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church, Jean was known within her community for her unwavering faith. She provided comfort and support to many, often being a person of solace for those in need of prayer at any hour. Her commitment to her church and community was a testament to her character, as she constantly sought to uplift others through her words and actions.

Jean enjoyed simple pleasures, such as keeping her yard immaculately maintained and took great pride in its pristine appearance. Additionally, her passion for singing and praising the Lord was a source of joy that enriched her life and the lives of others.

Jean leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Tina Kirkland and her husband Henry; son, Dusty Maxey and his wife Teresa; stepson, Dan Maxey and his wife Lorna; sister, Gladys Thompson Davis; and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is reunited in eternity with her parents, Jimmy Thompson and Pearl Nelson Thompson; husband, Miles Maxey; daughter, Deborah Jean Maxey; and great grandson, Tyler Ervin Phinney. Together, they will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service honoring Jean's life will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Santee Circle Church of God, located at 1211 N. US Hwy 52, Moncks Corner, SC 29461, beginning at 3:00 PM. Her family invites all who knew Jean to join them in celebrating her life. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Santee Circle Church of God Senior Shut In Fund, 1211 N. US Hwy 52, Moncks Corner, S.C. 29461.
