Barbara Hood Oliver, widow of Charlie Oliver, passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on January 11, 1936, in Summerville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of Harry Middleton Hood and Minnie Floyd Hood.
Barbara made history as the first female Probation and Parole Officer in Berkeley County, a role in which she served with distinction and compassion. Her commitment to her work reflected her profound sense of justice and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her. In addition to her professional achievements, Barbara was a member of Moncks Corner Methodist Church. Barbara and Charlie had both been active in the Berkeley Shrine Club, were they held many positions over the years.
Camping and traveling were among Barbara’s favorite pastimes. She found great joy at her family’s cabin in Lake Lure, a cherished getaway where she shared countless moments with her loved ones.
She is survived by her son George Oliver and his wife Robin, her grandchildren Frank Oliver and his wife Michelle, Erik Presnell, Alex Presnell and his wife Alexandria, and Mikaila Howard and her husband Riggs, as well as seven great-grandchildren who brought joy and light into her life.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charlie Oliver, as well as her parents. She is also reunited with her sisters, Evelyn Hood Mitchum and Tena Hood Forte, in eternal rest.
The visitation will take place on October 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at the Russell Funeral Chapel located at 107 West Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
