Anne-Marie Caturano Semmler of Hanahan, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 2, 1961, in Fairfax, Virginia. She was the daughter of Joseph M. and Rosemary C. Caturano.
She had a true passion for teaching starting at a very young age when she taught her cats and cicadas in the backyard by the apple trees. She is a 1979 graduate of Robinson High School in Fairfax, Virginia, and attended George Mason University, finishing her education at Marymount University. Her Alpha Omega Pi sorority sisters were very special to her. She spent 30 years as a schoolteacher in both Fairfax County School District in Virginia, and Berkely County School District in South Carolina. In South Carolina, she taught at both Sedgefield Intermediate and Hanahan Elementary. She found great rewards for teaching students over many years. During the summers, she enjoyed traveling and cruising to the Caribbean.
She is survived by her loving husband, Todd Semmler, and her two sons Joshua Paul and Jacob Patrick of whom she was extremely proud. She is also survived by her sisters Cathy Horan, Patty Hill (Parker), Mary Alexander (Scott), and her brother, Joe Caturano, Jr. (Kristi). In addition, she had nine nephews and nieces: Sean Horan, Katie Horan, Morgan Hill, Luke Hill, Jack Hill, Ashlyn Alexander, Madison Alexander, Elizabeth Caturano, and Michael Caturano.
Funeral arrangements will be at Russell Funeral Chapel at 107 W. Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC. The service will be on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the hour of service. A reception will immediately follow the service. There will be an internment in Fairfax, Virginia, at a later date.
