Alton Hugh Gaskins Sr., a beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, in his hometown of Macedonia. Born on July 28, 1933, Alton spent his life dedicated to his family, career, and his faith.
Alton enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Building and Maintenance Supervisor at Home Telephone, where he served for 16 years. Outside of his professional life, he proudly served in the Navy, embracing the values of duty that accompanied his time in the military.
A longstanding member of the Oak Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, Alton was deeply involved in his faith, he cherished the connections fostered there and found great fulfillment in helping others.
Alton's hobbies reflected his heartfelt dedication to family and hands-on work. He was passionate about woodworking and spent much of his time cutting grass. Family meant everything to Alton, and he took pride in spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was married to his wife, Belle Gaskins, for 60 years, a relationship filled with love and respect. Alton's legacy is carried on by his three sons: Hugh Gaskins Jr. and his wife Margie, Steve Gaskins and his wife Lori, David Gaskins and his wife Renee, a daughter, Vickie Dawson, and his sister Jeanette Ramirez. He was also the proud grandfather of Ashley Naugebauer and her husband Chris, Andrea Carlton and her husband Robert, Amanda Strong and her husband Brandon, Megan Bilton and her husband Jake, Tripp Gaskins and his wife Kristi, Bryan Gaskins and his wife Gina, David Wadford and his wife Iman, Phillip Gaskins and his wife Irma, Dr. Jeffrey Gaskins, Victoria Dawson, and Hayden Dawson. Alton was also blessed with 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Alton was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Fannie Belle Gaskins; his parents, Larry Lee Gaskins and Bessie Wyndham Gaskins; and his siblings, Legrand Gaskins, WJ Gaskins, Lila Bobo, Belma Price, Freida Matlock, Joann Gist, and Sylvia Allen. He leaves behind fond memories for all who knew him.
Family, friends, and community were invited to gather for visitation on October 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oak Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bonneau, SC. The funeral service follows at 12:00 PM, a tribute to a life well-lived and a spirit that will be missed. Alton Hugh Gaskins Sr.'s memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.
