Agnes M. Wooten

Agnes Murphy Wooten, 95, of St. Stephen, widow of Carl Marshall Wooten Sr., died Monday, August 1, 2011, at her residence.

Born August 4, 1915, in Charleston, Mrs. Wooten was the daughter of Patrick Joseph Murphy and Agnes Collins Murphy of 30 Radcliffe Street in Charleston. She was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Bonneau, S.C.,,and a member of the Church Ladies Guild. A member of the Rug Hooking Guild and a charter member and past President of the St. Stephen Garden Club, she was named St. Stephen’s Citizen of the Year in 2004.

Survivors include: four children – Mary W. Clarke and her husband, John, of St. Stephen; Carl M. Wooten Jr. of Ninety Six; William Patrick Wooten and his wife, Nancy, of Orangeburg.; Millie W. Wallace and her husband, David, of Wadmalaw Island; five grandchildren -- Kelly Clarke Guerry and her husband Paul; Molly Clarke Newton and her husband, Gregg; Patrick C. Wooten and his wife, Tara, Johnson C. Wooten and Julia C. Wooten; one great-grandchild, Olivia Marie Newton. She is also survived by a cousin, Margaret Meynardie of Charleston, and was predeceased by a sister, Camilla Murphy, and a brother, Joseph Patrick Murphy, both of St. Stephen.

Her funeral service was held Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Bonneau. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Cemetery directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
