Robert Vander Mixon Sr.

Robert Vander Mixon Sr., affectionately known as Vander to his loved ones, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024, in North Charleston, South Carolina. His life began in Lancaster, S.C., on September 15, 1942, born to the late James Robert Mixon and Nettie Stacks Mixon. 

Vander's life was marked by dedication and service, which began from his decision to enlist in the Marine Corps immediately after graduating from Greeleyville High School. He proudly wore his country's uniform and continued to embrace the ethos "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." His commitment to his fellow servicemen and women extended beyond his active duty as he maintained life memberships with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans of America. Vander was also a member of the Marine Corp League and Fleet Reserve Association. Professionally, he made significant contributions as a retired production manager for Albany International, where his work took him to Chungju, South Korea.

Vander's passion for life was evident beyond his service and career. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures, reveling in hobbies such as golfing, hunting, and fishing. His greatest joy, however, was in spending time with his family and friends, cherishing every moment.

 He is survived by his loving daughters, Samantha Griffin and her husband Roy, and Patricia Cave and her husband Ken; and by his son, Robert V. Mixon Jr.; granddaughters, Taylor, Kasey, Abbey, Alexis and Lakrista. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Grover Mixon.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Vander's honor on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Harristown Road Baptist Church at 6 P.M. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the church from 4:30 P.M. until the time of service.
