Clyde Raymond Hill Jr., 84, of Moncks Corner, a retired investigator for the Berkeley County Solicitors Office died Monday evening in local hospice facility.
His funeral service will be 12pm Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2024, Graveside in Berkeley Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner, SC. Interment will follow directed by Russell Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11am until the hour of the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorials be made to Agape Hospice, 187 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
Mr. Hill was born June 24, 1939, in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of Clyde Raymond Hill and Myrtle Still Hill. He was a graduate of Berkeley High School, was of the Baptist Faith, and a US Army Veteran. From an early age Junior, as he was affectionally known, helped his father operate the wrecker for Moncks Corner Motor Company, the local Ford Dealer. He later became a car salesman and operated the wrecker at the same dealership. Junior also worked for Dial Funeral Home and was especially fond of their ambulance service. In 1965 he and his then wife Dotty began Hill’s Ambulance Service, Berkeley County’s first ambulance service independent of a funeral home. Mr. Hill also served as Berkeley County’s first Deputy Coroner in the early 1970s. Throughout his life he continued to enjoy going on wrecker calls with Hill’s Wrecker Service and driving cars for the auction. He was predeceased by a daughter Whitney Leigh Hill.
Surviving are a son, John Clyde “Johnny” Hill of Moncks Corner, a sister Mary Hill Burnley and her husband Don of Bonneau Beach.
